David Rainey worked in advertising and marketing in Dallas, TX for 30 years. In 2009 he and his wife moved to Cortez because of their love for the area and its beauty. David taught art at Pueblo Community College and substitute taught for K-12 through the 2021-2022 school year. He has two sons and four granddaughters.

David earned his BA in Graphic Design from East Texas State University in 1967, and an MFA in Drawing and Painting with a minor in Printmaking from the University of North Texas in 2000.

David was elected to Cortez City Council in 2020 and serves as liaison on the Cortez Cultural Center Board of Directors and the Cortez Public Arts Advisory Committee. His goals for Cortez are affordable housing, availability of quality childcare, and good schools to attract and retain young professionals. He would also like to work toward a greater diversity in work opportunities.

Enjoying the natural beauty of the area through hiking, exploring creative endeavors, community service, gardening, and landscaping are how David spends his time.
