Department Overview
The Community and Economic Development Department consists of four divisions.
All divisions work in unison to preserve and enhance quality of life in the City of Cortez.
The Planning & Zoning Division (https://www.cortezco.gov/196/Planning-Zoning) is dedicated to guiding the development of the City of Cortez, through both short-term and long-term planning activities.
The Building Division (https://www.cortezco.gov/183/Building-Division) is primarily responsible for inspections of all phases of commercial and residential construction.
The Fire Division (https://www.cortezco.gov/194/Fire-Inspection-Services) conducts inspections and plan review of commercial projects to ensure that all federal, state, and local fire codes are met and maintained.
Burn permits are issued through our offices located at 123 Roger Smith Avenue, Monday-Friday. There is no fee for burn permits.
The Code Enforcement Division (https://co-cortez2.civicplus.com/422/Property-Maintenance-Enforcement) is responsible for unsafe structures, weeds, trash, junk, and other nuisances as well as zoning compliance issues.
