[ARCHIVED] Cortez Police Investigate Threats at Montezuma-Cortez High School

Yellow Community Message Generic - Cortez Police Department

Two incidents involving threats made in reference to the Montezuma-County High School are being investigated.

The Cortez Police Department takes all threats to our community and schools seriously. The Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 school district moved to lockdown as a response to threats received over the past two days.  Our number one priority is the safety of your children, our children, and the teachers and staff at our schools.

This is an active investigation. We ask that you allow us time to gather information and speak with witnesses.  We will continue to collaborate with the Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 school district to ensure the privacy and protection of the students and their families.

If you have information that may benefit the investigation, please contact the Cortez Police Department at 970-565-8441 or use the Submit A Tip on our CrimeWatch website and mobile app (CortezPd.org).
