Empire Street will be closed on Thursday, December 5, 2024, 8am-4pm from North Park Street to Roger Smith Avenue for road markings. Through traffic will be allowed on Mildred (north/south only). Access to the Kiva School will be allowed on Empire only.
The City of Cortez values community feedback and is committed to ensuring the community roadways meet the needs of everyone. After applying roadway lines as suggested by a consulting firm, we heard your concerns and observed the impact.
What we first thought would be a good idea—a special lane for emergency vehicles—ended up being confusing and possibly dangerous.
We're excited to announce that, thanks to your input, we'll be repainting the yellow emergency lines at the intersection of Empire Street and Mildred Road to better suit our community's unique needs. (Red indicates closure, yellow indicates through traffic allowed with caution)
