The new charging station at 1st Southwest Bank (next to Safeway) has eight shiny white chargers. Each one has two ports and can be used by both Tesla and non-Tesla electric cars.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, these fast chargers can power vehicles up to 80% in just 20 minutes to an hour. That gives travelers plenty of time to grab a coffee, check out a shop, or enjoy a walk downtown, giving Cortez another type of charge!
The new station is now the fourth in Cortez. The Colorado Welcome Center, the Montezuma County Annex, and the Keesee Motor Company Ford dealer all have their own. But each of these other stations has only one port.
Moving toward the future, Cortez will benefit from the tourism provided by these vehicles being guided to the Level 4 Superchargers by their built-in trip planners. As EV drivers plug in, they’re more likely to look around and appreciate what Cortez has to offer, potentially boosting business.
*This Tesla station was funded by the Colorado Energy Office and the Colorado Department of Transportation and is not owned or operated by the City of Cortez.
