[ARCHIVED] Cortez Municipal Airport Temporarily Closed for Upgrades

Photo of an aerial view of the Cortez, CO airport runway

Cortez Municipal Airport (CEZ) will be closed to all air traffic from
October 4 – 24, 2025 as part of a major runway rehabilitation and lighting upgrade project.

The Cortez Municipal Airport will be closed from October 4 to October 24, 2025, so crews can complete important runway repairs. This 20-day closure is part of a larger improvement project that begins on September 29, 2025, and will continue through March 2026.

During the project, the runway and taxiway connectors will get a new 4-inch layer of pavement. The surface will be groove-cut to help with traction and drainage. The airport will also receive brighter LED lights and a new electric vault to power them. Navigation tools will be replaced, and the center windsock will be moved to a better location.

Old materials from the runway will be reused to improve the road that runs along the airport’s perimeter fence.

Thanks for your patience and support as we make these vital improvements.
