Registration has closed for the current series of these classes. The Cortez Police Department invites residents to take part in the Fall Citizens Academy, a six-week immersive experience designed to bring the community closer to local law enforcement.
Are you looking for a memorable night out with friends, a unique date idea, or simply want to learn more about how your local police department operates? The Citizens Academy offers something for everyone.
Program Details Dates: Wednesdays, October 15 to November 19, 2025 Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

What You’ll Experience:
Hands-on training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
Insights into drone and bike patrol operations
Safe demonstrations of less-lethal weapons including tasers
Practice with FBI-approved arrest control techniques
Guided tour of the Montezuma-Cortez 911 Dispatch Center
Review of real body-worn camera footage
Opportunities to connect with local officers and community members
Enrollment Information Participation is free and open to residents aged 18 and older. Whether you prefer to engage actively or observe from the sidelines, all comfort levels are welcome. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
