Sloan, from Dugway, Utah, was selected following a competitive search that drew 62 applicants. After a thorough review process, the field was narrowed to two finalists who participated in a community meet and greet as well as a panel interview with City staff and administration. Input from community members was an important part of the evaluation process and helped inform the final selection.
Since April 2024, Sloan has served as an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Specialist with Jacobs DPG, where his responsibilities include utilizing traffic control systems to manage air traffic, providing emergency and crisis response, delivering critical briefings and training, and providing leadership in high-pressure operational situations.

From 2018 to 2022, he served as a Flight Instructor at Utah State University, where he achieved high first-time pass rates, created instructional materials, improved efficiency, and coordinated complex schedules.
Sloan also brings experience from his service in the United States Marine Corps and is a graduate of Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology from Utah State University and is an Eagle Scout, reflecting a long-standing commitment to leadership and community service.
He has demonstrated strengths in emergency management, safety oversight, logistics coordination, leadership, and training development, all of which support effective and compliant airport operations.
