Public Works

The Public Works Department is located in the City Service Center and is responsible for street repair and maintenance, water treatment and distribution, trash collection, recycling, engineering, and GIS.

Public Works has established fees to cover expenses for materials and cost of services. They can be viewed in the current Council Fee Resolution for Public Works Services and Materials.

A right-of-way construction permit is required if any work will be done within the city street or alley right-of-way. Call the city service center at 970-565-7320 for more information.


WEEDS:  The City of Cortez considers knapweed, leafy spurge, kochia, and other weeds as "undesirable plants" and private property owners (residential and commercial) are responsible for the elimination and management of undesirable plants from their property.  Read this brochure for more information on noxious weeds.
