Community Garden at the Rec Center
Located just outside our facility, the Cortez Recreation Center garden began in 2017 as a revitalization project led by volunteers and local partners. Today, it serves as a vibrant demonstration garden showcasing intensive growing techniques and season extension. Volunteers tend the plots, host workshops, and donate all produce to the Good Samaritan Center Food Pantry, reinforcing our shared commitment to wellness and food access.
In addition to the demonstration beds, the site includes 18 rentable garden plots available to residents of Montezuma and Dolores Counties. Gardeners collaborate on maintenance, share harvests, and gather throughout the season to plan, learn, and connect.
This garden is a true reflection of Cortez values—community-driven, inclusive, and rooted in care for one another and the land.
